WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM?

Great question, in fact, it's one of our favorites! The name comes from something said by the first (and only) venture capital firm – banker-types who invest in businesses – we went to for money. After a lengthy presentation regarding our plans to “reignite American manufacturing by offering high-quality products at competitive prices,” the guy on the other side of the table said, “the only way to reignite American manufacturing is with a flint and tinder.”

It was his way of saying he wouldn’t invest. It’s also a bit of a misnomer – it takes flint and steel to make a spark, though tinder will help get you fire from there. But it also has a ring to it. Sometimes even rejection comes with a silver lining.

DOES BUYING AMERICAN-MADE HELP THE ECONOMY?

You bet your ass it does, and not in some vague way either…

In fact, for every 1,000 pair of underwear we sell per month, at least one sustainable job is added within our supply chain.

It's not a pledge or a promise... it's a fact.

Had we asked just one factory to fulfill our first orders in a single month, it would have meant hiring 40 additional workers to move it through the lines. Instead, in an effort to spread our economic footprint across as large a footprint as possible, what started with a single factory, has expanded to an ever-evolving group of factories, facilities and craftsmen.

When we first contracted them, none of these factories were set-up to produce underwear. They agreed to make the switch because they needed business.

Today, instead of contracting, they're expanding. For every 1,000 pair we sell per month, 1 full-time job has to be added back to the assembly line per month somewhere within our supply chain.

WHEN WILL MY ORDER SHIP?

Unless otherwise noted, everything ordered from the Flint and Tinder website ships within 1 business day. Please keep in mind, that's just the time it takes us to pack it up and rush it out the door. The amount of time it takes from that point until it reaches your hands can vary based on where in the country you're located and/or which shipping methods were selected.

WHEN WILL MY ORDER GET TO ME (how long does shipping take)?

Unless otherwise noted, everything ordered from the Flint and Tinder website ships within 1 business day. From there, the amount of time it takes to reach your mailbox can vary based on the service level you select at checkout. Don't worry, we'll remind you of all of this when you get to that stage. In the meantime though, the tables below should give you a pretty good idea of when to expect your stuff:


FedEx Ground - 3 - 5 Business days to anywhere within the Continental US
FedEx 2-Day - 3 Business days to anywhere within the Continental US
FedEx Standard Overnight - 2 Business days (just to be safe)
FedEx Priority Overnight - 2 Business days (just to be safe) but delivers in the AM

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SIZE I AM?

Please refer to our size chart list on the product page of any item. Please note however that while many brands try to make guesses about what size you might think you are (something they call "vanity sizing"), Flint and Tinder uses "true to life" sizing. What this means is that if you measure your waist, getting the right size is as easy as ordering the size listed for that measurement. No guessing required!

WHEN DO I GET CHARGED FOR MY PURCHASE?

Your credit card is charged as soon as you click "Complete Purchase" and finish the checkout process. We'll also send an automatic email to confirm that your order was placed successfully.

Because we are located in New York State, taxes are only added to orders for delivery in this same state.

HOW IS SHIPPING CALCULATED?

Standard Ground Shipping is shipped via FedEx, and price is calculated by area. Shipping price is calculated in your cart and is based on your ship-to address. 

For expedited shipping (2-Day or Overnight), simply select that option during check-out. Added fees do apply, but we'll let you know what they cost before charging your card. Costs vary by country on International Orders but we'll let you know how much shipping will cost as well as the options available to you during checkout. Before placing your order though, please take a minute to read our International Orders page as there are a number of special circumstances you'll want to be aware of.

Free shipping via USP or FedEx is avaialble on orders over $100.
